I take great joy in finding and sharing these sort of images. Symmetry really speaks to me, and this stunning photo has it going on all over. This one defies the good-old rule of thirds by placing the subject right in the center of the camera lens, but a dramatic panning shot is not what the photographer was going for.
This one is something right out of a museum. It conjures up images of Roman sculpture and Greek gods. One can scarcely see big-time pornstar Angelika Black. Instead, one might imagine Aphrodite perched on her fleshy throne before the altar. Her face conveys the fact that she is above this world – perhaps barely aware of the existence of mere mortals. Enraptured in coital bliss, she serves as an inspiration and a reminder to enjoy the natural and simple pleasures of life.

Everything said about this image so far is quite right. Angelika is indeed beautiful, and although we can’t see the gentleman’s face, he is (ahem) quite strikingly masculine.
The pose is brilliant, and it’s easy to appreciate the sensual pleasure and joy of the moment. As you stated so well, there is beauty here deep enough to evoke statuary.
For me, however, I can’t completely enjoy the image because I am distracted by small details that suggest to me that this is Angelika’s job and not her joy. There are some fashion conventions from the old school of porn that still intrude: the overdone eye shadow, the unlikely color of hair dye, and even the French toenails. In so many other images from your collection, these little details are more subdued, more natural, more suggestive of real people in real life. In this image somehow, these details diminish the overall effect.
I guess what I’m really getting at is that all of the old porn gimmicks such as grotesque makeup, bizarre nails, wild hair color, fetish clothing, ugly high-heeled shoes worn in bed can have the effect of emphasizing artifice, exploitation, and insincerity. Obvious, there is nothing wrong with fetish play or fetish imagery—not at all!—but this image seems to be not fully committed to either a naturalistic aesthetic or a fetish aesthetic.
You are doing a marvelous service here by pointing out what is truly beautiful in this image, and I certainly honor the talent of the models and the technical crew who created it. My observation is that moving ahead to a true aesthetic for naturalist erotica involves focusing on the models and their emotions rather than on gimmicky porn conventions.

S.A. – Great insight. Although I never really thought about it, I too look at “porny gimmicks” in a negative light.
Outrageous makeup, odd hair color and such do not specifically bar me from a photo or film, but they do weigh in on some subconscious level to discard the piece. I think it really depends on how it’s presented. If the makeup artist and stylist have come together to create some new piece of art, a-la a fashion statement, then I’m down with it. But the porn industry is full of charlatans who pass off tackiness as makeup artistry, and that’s what usually leads me to make the big delete.
With respect to this image, I had a similar thought. I even created my own black and white edit in an effort to tone down the eye shadow and see what that looked like, but I didn’t want to spoil the photographer’s vision with my own silly edits.
